Simple Rainbow Card

What better way to start off my blog than with this super-simple Rainbow Card using Stampin' Up! set, Rainbow of Happiness from the Stampin' Up! Mini Catalogue, January to June 2022.  This gorgeous little set is perfect for the simplest of cards, with the potential to spice it up as much as you'd like, to make it, well, 'a little bit fancy'.  After all, from little things, little things grow.  And this is especially true when it comes to crafting ideas, right?  I often start with something really easy peasy, then tweak it, change it, add to it, take a bit away and add something altogether different... I can spend hours on one card.

Anyway, I wanted to share this card because it can start out really basic, perfect for a beginner card maker and then develop as your skills and confidence with paper-crafting grow.

Method

  1. Starting with a sheet of Thick Basic White Cardstock, cut to 14.5cm x 10.5 cm and scored down the centre then folded, creates the ideal card base and makes a card that fits beautifully into the Stampin' Up! C6 envelopes.  (I never use the cheap envelopes when giving cards, I like to give a luxury 'you're worth it' feeling to all my recipients... because they are!)
  2. After this, you can choose any colour combination you like.  a range of blues would make a gorgeous card, or an assortment of colours like I have chosen this time.  (Melon Mambo, Mango Melody, Granny Apple Green, Balmy Blue, Bermuda Bay and Gorgeous Grape).
  3. My backing card is cut to 14 x 10 cm, with another piece of Basic White cut to 13.5 x 9.5 cm.  This is where the real fun begins!  I start by using the biggest 'bow' in melon Mambo and then use the others, Mango Melody, Granny Apple Green and Balmy Blue stamping them with progressively smaller bows each time.  I used the stripes on the Granny Apple Green here, in either Bermuda Bay or Gorgeous Grape (depending on which colour was used for the backing sheet.)  These, of course can be done using clear embossing powder and the colour chosen to add little interest and texture to the card.
  4. Using die-cut images of clouds from the coordinating 'Brilliant Rainbow Dies', that I had cut from white glimmer paper and punched hearts (from a retired punch) in select colours, this card is extremely quick to produce and is sure to impress any loved one!
  5.  Mine was finished with the sentiment "you make me happy" but is perfect for so many occasions, this stamp set has found a way to my 'favourites list' very quickly.  I just love it.
  6. I often add a coordinating image to the envelopes of my cards too, just to complete the card.  This time I used the tiny hearts from the set on the back of the envelopes in a coordinating colour.

I'd love to see any designs you come up with using this set!  Please email them to me at hello@simonecollins.com.au
