Having trouble embossing with your Big Shot?

If you've been paper-crafting for a while and have a Big Shot but you have trouble getting your all your embossing folders to work, I have the answer for you. One solution would to be the Stampin' Up! Stampin' Cut 'n' Emboss, but you really don't need to! Let me explain what it is that you really need to get your Big Shot working for you. It's all about the 'sandwich'... and 'no', this isn't a food blog!

Die-Cutting:

If you are needing to die-cut images and shapes, you will need to use your Big Shot with the original base plate (the one with the 'flaps' that you add or take away, depending on your project).

The 'sandwich' is made up of:

  1. the base plate

  2. flap 1

  3. flap 2

  4. cutting plate

  5. paper/card that you are cutting the image out of

  6. die

  7. cutting plate

t's also a good idea to switch your plates (using them 'upside down') for 50% of their use. This should help to slow the 'bending' that will happen to your plates with lots of use. Another way to lengthen the life of your plates (and your Big Shot) is to not always do your die-cutting in the middle of your plates.  Feel free to use your dies in a different position on the cutting plates, this will help them last longer too. The rollers in your Big Shot will last longer if you do this also.

Standard Embossing Plates:

Using your standard embossing folders, you will need to use your Big Shot with the original base plate with the following 'sandwich':

The 'sandwich' is made up of:

  1. the base plate

  2. flap 1

  3. cutting plate

  4. paper/card that you are embossing inside the Standard Embossing Folder

  5. cutting plate

3D Embossing Plates:

Using your 3D embossing folders, you will need to use your Big Shot with the original base plate with the following 'sandwich':

The 'sandwich' is made up of:

  1. the base plate

  2. flap 1

  3. paper/card that you are embossing inside the 3D Embossing Folder

  4. specialty plate

** The 'specialty' plate is either the translucent blue looking plate (no longer available) or the grey plate (154711) which is still available.
